Moanalua Elementary: Gifted & Talented Program (SY 2026-2027)

Moanalua Elementary School is now accepting nominations for the Gifted and Talented (GT) Program for the 2026-2027 school year. This program is designed for students who demonstrate exceptional ability, creativity, and high-level critical thinking skills.

Program Overview

The GT program provides a unique environment for students to engage in independent projects, inquiry-based learning, and creative problem-solving.

  • Eligibility: Incoming 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade students.

  • Schedule: Mondays and Fridays | 2:15 P.M. – 3:30 P.M. (After school).

Spotlight: MES NEWS Media Program

A premier feature of our GT curriculum is the Media Program. Our Gifted and Talented students take the lead in producing the MES NEWS broadcast, gaining hands-on experience in:

  • Digital storytelling and scriptwriting.

  • Technical production and broadcasting.

  • Collaborative communication and leadership.

The selection process involves three steps: Nomination, Screening, and Committee Review. During screening, the school utilizes several assessment measures:

  • Cognitive & Creative Testing: COGAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) and the Torrance Test for Creativity.

  • Academic & Behavioral Assessment: Stanford Writing Assessment and the Renzulli Survey.
