Music at MES
Students experience Music class every other week based on our Articulation schedule. Grade K-6 classes are approximately 45 minutes long. Music class curriculum is aligned to the Hawaii Common Core Standards for Music, which have been adapted from the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Standards.
Each grade level's curriculum is based on different music standards/benchmarks that explore a variety of musical concepts and skills. Many of the benchmarks are performance-based, so active participation is key for student success. Instruction and lessons draw from various music education approaches and methodologies, which focus on singing, instrument playing, composing, improvising, notating, listening, and movement.
