Thank you very much for the donation of dry erase markers.  We will utilize these markers in our math lessons, and with the osmo kits to reinforce spelling and handwriting skills!

Donors Choose Project Fulfilled Again!

Hello Families,
Exciting news, our 2nd donors choose project requesting osmo centers, and one more Dot & Dash robot have been fulfilled!

A heartfelt thanks go out to our donors for bringing these engaging tech tools into our classrooms.

Donors Choose Project Fullfilled

Families fantastic news!
Our donors choose project asking for 5 ipads with cases to utilize with our robots was completely funded by a generous company!

Our class project asking for a set of Osmo's is still up if you are able to support that. Each donation is tax deductible and we currently have a matching donor so we only need to raise half the funds!  Click here to support.

Scholastic Book Orders

B5 had begun to send home book order forms.
Due to our pilot program, we will only be accepting online orders through https://clubs.scholastic.com/home.

Our class code is:  NXZNK.
Orders will be submitted on Dec 1st to get your orders in time for the holidays!

Double the Impact

Hello Families,
Our "Awesome Osmo Centers" donor's choose project has some amazing news. Donations to this project are now being matched, thanks to support from Craig Newmark Philanthropies. Craig Newmark Philanthropies is honored to support educators and military families across the U.S. Each donation is tax deductible!

We are now only $384 away from fulfilling this project to bring osmo centers and another Dot & Dash robot kit to B5!

GLO GETTER Q2 FOCUS

Quarter 2 GLO's focus is on
Community Contributor and Effective Communicator.
To earn this award, you child must receive a consistently.

Drama practice has begun and our students are hard at work.
2nd graders are learning to use their bodies to safely work with one another and portray ideas from stories.  Students have identified parts of a story (beginning, middle, end).  They are identifying key details to focus on for their scenes.  Students are practicing team work and communication to share their ideas.
Mark you calendar for Nov 9th when we will be showcasing our knowledge of seed dispersal and pollination! Be sure to send your RSVP (yellow paper).
Donors Choose Opportunity
Support Miss Evans in raising funds for tech integration for math and language arts centers just like the tech on Mrs Alvarez's Donors choose.  Miss Evans is also seeking support for one more Dot and Dash Wonder kit.

Miss Evans is trying to bring osomo interactive ipad centers to her 2nd graders to give them the same opportunities as other second grade classes.  Miss Evans is also seeking to add one more robot kit to her classroom to better service all 24 students, and future summer school students.  These grade appropriate centers will help her students grow in language arts and math centers as well as tech literacy and creativity.

All donations are doubled using the code LIFTOFF!

Wish Fulfilled!

Thank you to our generous families for donating so generously to B5.  Many books have been donated to our class library including chapter books, and fun picture books.  The pictured book is a wish granted for B5.  This fun story will help us learn how to take both positive and constructive feedback to grow as learners and people.

Also, we received a donation marked "Anonymous Community Member".  This secret donor saw things on our wish list and sent in a few items.  Thank you so much to our Moanalua Community.

Comp HW Video Tutorials

Hello B5 families,
Video tutorials will be created to show a step by step guide of how to log in to each of our computer HW sites.

Your child is capable of logging in and has done so many times, but at home the ipads or computers may feel a little different.  To best support students in logging in, we understand that parents need to feel comfortable with the process as well.  These videos will be rolling out through out the week.  The tutorials will be posted on our class page, as well as the curriculum page of the 2nd grade website.

The first month of computer homework is considered a month of practice as both students and families become used to this new routine.  Students are given the opportunity in class/during recess to catch up during the first month.

Thank you for your feedback and patience!

Math Mats

B5 friends have added a new item to their homework binders!
Behind their planners, students have a sheet protector.
We call this the Math Mat Pocket

In side there are Math Mats your child can use at home and in school.
Your child can take out the sheets, choose the one that will help them complete their math homework putting it on top of the stack.  They can slip it into the sheet protector to begin their work.

Children will need either a dry erase marker to use on the sheet, or things like dried beans to move around the mat.

In second grade children are expected to build their numbers and problems out as they work.  This helps students build an understanding that will help them transfer to algorithms and mental math in the future.

Math Tool
Add or subtract your numbers using our chart.  You can use legos, beans, and even draw it out.
