Course Description
Welcome to Moanalua Elementary School ~ Grade 2 ~ Room B3.
Homework Policy:
Homework will be given daily, Monday - Thursday, to help reinforce what was learned in class. Occasionally, homework will be given on Fridays when there is a special project, extra practice is needed, work was not completed in class, or when your child is absent. Homework needs to be completed and turned in the next day. If your child forgets to do their homework or if it's forgotten at home, it can be turned in the next day along with a parent note. If homework is forgotten repeatedly, student will stay in at recess to work on it.
Spelling Homework:
- Write words 5 times. Say the sounds (not the letter names) and write the letters. Please write legibly with proper letter formation.
- Write words in ABC order (alphabetical order).
Vocabulary Homework:
- Write words 5 times. Say the sounds (not the letter names) and write the letters. Please write legibly with proper letter formation.
- Vocabulary Match - Match each vocabulary word to its definition.
- Vocabulary in Context - Fill in the blanks using the vocabulary word that best completes each sentence.
- Vocabulary Sentences. Write a sentence for each vocabulary word.
Practice using the vocabulary word properly in a sentence and making
sure you understand its meaning. Use proper capitalization, punctuations,
spacing, and letter formation. Underline the vocabulary words. Try to write
sentences using 6 or more words. Use describing words and phrases to
make sentences more interesting when possible.
Reading Fluency - One Minute Timed Reading Checks:
- Read the Story 3 times. Record the Words-Per-Minute for each timed reading.
Read the entire story on the 4th try. This reading is not timed.
- Read Automaticity List 2 times. Circle the word they read up to in one minute.
- Study Word Recognition Quiz. Practice Spelling and High Frequency Words.
Math Homework:
- Math homework will be sent home to reinforce what is learned in class.
- Practice number facts for addition and subtraction 0-10, multiplication and division for 2, 3, 4, 5, 10.
Monthly Computer Homework:
- Kid Biz: 2 Articles / week. Completing additional articles are encouraged.
Encourage your child not to rush through the reading comprehension questions. Don't guess if they don't know the answer, return to the article and look for text evidence. Need 75% or better to pass.
- IXL Math / Frontrow : 10 minutes
- Reading Wonders: Read weekly stories and complete activities.
- Typing.com: Practice typing and keyboarding skills.
