Curriculum
GT students will take their learning to another level of rigor and relevance as they produce media related creations.
Year-Long Project: MES NEWS
Students will write informational stories for our MES NEWS broadcast.
In this program, students will learn and practice digital citizenship along with understanding real world connections through journalism. They will understand how to properly cite and give credit for any digital production. Skills in proper digital citizenship will be used throughout the year. This program will also allow for students to engage in hands-on technology with camera training, video editing, and proper equipment handling. Photography is a key focus with camera work that leads to the first project creation of Public Service Announcements. Students will also apply these skills to video productions through outside events.
Project #1: Olelo Youth Video Competition
Students will unlock their creative potential and exercise their freedom of speech by participating in the Youth Xchange Video Contest. The YOUTH XCHANGE STATEWIDE STUDENT VIDEO CONTEST is Hawai‘i’s premiere and only statewide youth video competition open to all ages (elementary, middle, high, and college). Youth Xchange empowers youth to identify and bring critical community issues to the forefront via un-editorialized video content. Students are able to compete in sponsored and general categories such as Mini-Documentary, Public Service Announcement, and Short. The video competition culminates at the annual awards banquet celebrating the achievements of the talented students and teachers.
